Empowering physically challenged pupils in the communities

Rebecca Mwiinga is a 15 year old grade 9 pupil at Kabulembe Community School in Namayani Central Zambia. Rebecca who is physically impaired from birth has had challenges with going to school as easily as every other pupil. She used to miss class and this affected her academic performance. However, in 2012 through PAFs Access to Basic Education project funded by RFF, Rebecca was assisted with a mobility aid. This has enabled Rebecca to have better access education.

“I want to be a teacher when I finish my secondary school education. These crutches you Empowering physically challenged pupils in the communities have given me will help me pursue my dreams (career). I will now attend class regularly and improve my academic performance”. She added, “I have realized that despite being disabled I can do many things. These crutches also enable me to play Netball with my friends and live a normal and healthy life.”
Soon Rebecca and many other children with physical and mental challenges will have better access to quality basic education. As PAF, our concerted efforts to join hands with local and international partners including the local communities, will continue to facilitate change in the lives of many people.
