PAF Mazabuka celebrates Women’s Day with Nega Nega women

PAF Mazabuka joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8th March, 2017. The event which was held at Nega Nega East Primary school in Mazabuka district, Southern Province was organized and supported by Mazabuka Municipal Council, PAF and  people from the community. The PAF team championed the event by interpreting the theme: “Women in the Changing World of Work, Planet 50/50 by 2030”, by sharing the work that the organization has been doing in the area such as supporting adult literacy and girls education for equal opportunities through the enrollment and retention of girls in school.

PAF through one of its trained school mentor Tina Mtonga helped raise awareness and sensitize the community on the existence of the Re-entry Policy in schools and also provided information on how important it is to empower women and girls through education for sustainable development.

Other discussions where that gender inequality had an evident but accepted negative impact on the girls and this has been seen in how few girls take science and technology classes in schools as they continue to be perceived as “boys subjects”, and in how many still drop out for reasons of pregnancy, early marriage and having to take care of their siblings and house chores. The trend which is discriminatory and contributes to high poverty levels as fewer women are able to lead development sectors due to luck of the need skills, education and empowerment from an early age.
